There are three racial classifications of hair. Mongoloid or Oriental (round and straight in cross section), Caucasoid or White (round to oval in cross section) and Negroid or Black (flat and spiral in cross section).
Most problems that occur with Negroid textured hair are caused by chemicals and lack of moisture. A dry branch will snap when bent while a fresh branch will bend. Chemicals and excessive dryness are the main causes of hair breakage.
Why is this important for you to know? The hair you are born with has to last you a lifetime. If you lose the hair follicles through abuse and disease they can only be replaced by transplanting hair from one area to the other and not by creating new hair. Prevention is always the best cure for hair loss. Early diagnosis and treatment of diseased follicles is also very important in preventing the progression of hair loss.
